How do we honor our bodies when we are exhausted by our anger?

The BodyShop is where Scythe+Soil Collaborators join to share somatic tools for these questions.

The BodyShop is a workshop and jam for folks interested in using movement to be well (REGISTER HERE). In 2026, these outdoor sessions are facilitated by Scythe+Soil Collaborators over 3 hours. Participants receive movement and writing prompts that culminate in a closing jam with live musicians and sound artists--for free. Those familiar with somatic movement or improvisational dance styles may use this course to explore the line between moving and meditation. The BodyShop is also a beginner-friendly, body-positive space facilitated by practitioners who are SERIOUS about accessible wellness practices. This may also be for you if:
- You need space to deal with the anger of our constant news cycle
- You want to move outdoors with others
- You want a movement space led by Black folk who believe in theory with action

These sessions will center Afro-diasporic culture and is open to those of well-oriented and varied cultural/racial experience. In Afro-diasporic cultures, movement helps us meet change authentically. In BodyShops, we practice ways to welcome our changing world. Sessions occur around Black August and Durham Pride celebrations and during fall. These are times of social activation and communal reflection. It’s a time where our anger can be justified publicly. Luckily, it’s also often a good time for frolic-worthy weather.
